David Cangelosi made his Metropolitan Opera début in 2004 as Mime in Das Rheingold under the musical direction of legendary conductor James Levine and has returned to the MET in multiple roles and ‘Ring’ related assignments over the past eighteen years. He has performed his signature role of Mime with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, Opéra de Montreal, Boston Wagner Society, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he performed Mime in Das Rheingold and Siegfried with the Hong Kong Phil, both of which were recorded on Naxos and conducted by Jaap van Zweden (New York Philharmonic). Other notable ‘Ring’ highlights include a recording of the ‘Forging Scene’ (Siegfried) with Placido Domingo for EMI Classics’ Scenes from the Ring, and a special presentation of Siegfried with Juneau Lyric Opera

Recent and upcoming engagements include The Nose (2023) with Chicago Opera Theater, a role debut of Eisenstein in a new production of Die Fledermaus for Western Plains Opera, a role debut of Edrisi for Chicago Opera Theater’s production of King Roger (2022), and a return to the Metropolitan Opera roster in early 2023. He recently completed a 2022 holiday run of the Magic Flute with the Metropolitan Opera and performed the roles of Mosquito/Schoolmaster in the original multi-media production of Cunning Little Vixen with the Cleveland Orchestra in Cleveland and toured Vienna and Luxembourg with the same. Mr. Cangelosi will be delighted to make his debut with Detroit Opera in this highly acclaimed Yuval Sharon production in May 2024. Additionally, he made his Houston Grand Opera debut singing Spoletta (Tosca) and Triquet (Eugene Onegin) and debuted with Bard SummerScape as the Blind Judge in Das Wunder der Heliane, and Martinu’s Juliette: Key to Dreams at Carnegie Hall, both conducted by Leon Botstein. Mr. Cangelosi sang a role debut of Shuisky in Boris Godunov with the Dallas Opera and has returned to the company for Moby Dick, Madame Butterfly, Tosca, and Magic Flute.

Additional highlights include, Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, along with Le Nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte with Paris Opera (Bastille/Garnier), performances as the Witch (Hansel & Gretel) with Opera Fairbanks and Western Plains Opera, and new productions of Die Fledermaus and Tosca with the Canadian Opera Company (COC, Toronto) in addition to his decades-long association with Lyric Opera of Chicago (30 principal roles). Cangelosi made his cinematic debut at the Venice Film Festival in the feature film Tosca starring Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna along with his debut at the Hollywood Bowl in a concert version of The Magic Flute with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. (A pandemic shortened 2020/2021 season would have found Cangelosi in his role debut of Loge in Das Rheingold at the famed Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires.)
